ILLITERACY:
Most people think
that if you don’t go to school, you are an illiterate. My definition of
illiteracy is the inability to apply common sense. Some people are PHD holders,
have the highest degree but they still act and talk like someone without sense.
Most people, especially the black race don’t understand how life works, they
are ignorant and still proud of their ignorance. They don’t know something and
they act like they know and it becomes a big problem when they don’t know that
they don’t know and refuse to take correction from anyone. In Nigeria most of
our leaders don’t know what it means to rule and they don’t know that they
don’t know how to rule, they think they know and that has been one of the
problem Nigeria is facing.
We claim to be educated yet we still
allow senselessness to be the order of the day, We all want corruption to go
but we celebrate corrupt people, like Ibori, Goodluck Jonathan, Obasanjo,
Buhari, Fashola and the rest of them. There are no good or bad politicians,
there are just politicians they are all the same.
No one wants
to listen to the other, “I know it all” is killing this country. Till we learn
to open our mind to possibilities and ideas we will not progress.
Out of illiteracy a parent that has
failed in life will push his child to tight corners so the child will not fail
and train them (the parents) when they are old.
Most Nigerians don’t have retirement plans, they don’t know what that
is. We Nigerians believe in living in the moment which doesn’t make sense at
all. Since they failed and they want to
live that flashy life they fantasize about they will now start putting too much
pressure on their kids which leads to WRONG UPBRINGING.
WRONG
UPBRINGING: Every parent wants their kid to be
someone important in the society or want the kid to be rich at all cost so they
put ideas into the kids head while the kid is growing up, tell the kid about
how good and easy life is which is not true. A child will be born with a
talent, lets say the child has the ability to solve puzzles, or fix stuffs but
the parent will want the child to be a banker or doctor or a lawyer not considering the fact
that the child might be a good architect or a good electrical engineer, they
sway the child from becoming what he would have been good at doing to what they
want the child to do, by doing so they don’t consider the child`s happiness or
what the child has passion for.
The kid grows up, with the mind of an
engineer but since the parents pushed him to be a lawyer then after writing
Jamb like 3 times, because of the pressure from his parents to go to school and
pressure from society that age is not on his side, he will settle for English
language, after the fun of being a student for 5 years, he graduates to face
the real world and then realize that life is extremely hard, out of frustration
he decides to do whatever he has to do to make ends meet. By then his parents
will be looking up to him to provide for them and with all those pressure he
will do anything to get paid which might lead him to CORRUPTION.
CORRUPTION
: it is no news that
corruption is the order of the day in Nigeria. Every tom, dick and harry is
looking for a quick way to save or earn a little cash.
Majority of the youths that are said
to be the future leader are looking for a short cut, they Bet, they do internet
fraud, some even go as far as doing rituals to make quick and easy money.
Our rulers are corrupt and that’s a
major problem, the foundation of the country is built on corruption, from the
president to the least person in the country is some what corrupt.
I went to the get my driver`s
license, I followed and obeyed all protocol and it took me 13 months to get my
license while someone that bribed the officials got hers in less than a month.
Went to Ikotun to get my national ID
card few years back, the staffs said I should wait for PHCN to supply power
because there is no fuel in the Generator and the machine needs power to
function and she asked us to contribute for fuel, I mean can you imagine that?
Everybody is looking for whom to rip
off, it is hard to find someone honest and its worst amongst government workers.
We cannot change the world if we
don’t change ourselves. We need to change our mindset in Nigeria and try our
best to be motivated by Dignity.
RELIGION: Christianity is not bad, Islam is not bad, but the people
that practice the religion are the bad people especially the clergymen i.e the
pastors, G.O`s, Imams e.t.c.
They
try their best to tell you that the opposite religion is wrong and bad, the
twist the bible and quaran to suit their selfish interest.
Most Nigerians expect God to do
everything for them, the don’t work, don’t apply common sense and they expect
God to perform wonders for them. A
pastor will tell you to bring your tithe, they have even gone as far to say,
students should pay tithe when the bible only said 1/10 of what you earn. You
earn when you work, a student don’t work, they didn’t say 1/10 of the gifts you
get.
Boko Haram is an epidemic in
Nigeria, why? Because of Religion. Most Nigerians are mentally lazy, why?
Because they believe God will do a miracle for them, Same religion. They refuse
to be creative, refuse to work our mind because we feel God will do it.
TRIBALISM:
Tribalism is killing us, and igbo man sees his
fellow igbo man as brother but sees a Yoruba man as a stranger which makes it
hard to work with each other towards making this country great. Some land lords
wont let their house to you if you are not from the same tribe with them, Some
companies wont hire you if you are not from a particular tribe. In lagos state
it is hard to be employed as a government worker if you are not Yoruba. You
hate what I just said but you cant prove me wrong, If you have seen an Igbo
Lastma official, let me know.
We need to
change the way we think in this country so we can move forward and realize that
the country is ours and we have to join hands together and build it, lets keep
aside our difference, and work together for a better Nigeria.
